(Weights are optional.)  In addition, a 21-year study in the New England Journal of Medicine found that among several forms of exercise studied, only dancing reduced the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia; and it was by a dramatic 76 percent.Instructor:  Mary Root

A registered nurse provides foot care at the Senior Center on the first, third and fourth Tuesdays of the month. During your appointment, they trim and file nails, sand calluses and corns, and give a foot massage. Appointments run from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM and cost $40, cash or check (made payable to Dancing Feet).Call the Senior Center at (860) 658-3273 to make your appointment.

Tammy Denease is a local actor, director and historian who brings to life the stories of “hidden” women throughout history. She will present a one-woman performance of the story of Sarah Margu. At only 9 years old, Margu was taken from her home in Sierra Leone by slave traders and brought to America aboard the Amistad. Learn how Margu and others forced aboard the Amistad won their freedom and how she went on to become the first African person to graduate from college.  Cosponsored by Simsbury Public Library & Simsbury Senior Center

But it’s more than that.  In A Wild Beckoning, we’re going to take nature herself as a guide, expanding the creative force within us by studying her rhythms.   “Writing Yourself Back In Time: Historical Fiction” Tuesday, June 10, 1:30 - 2:30 p.m., So. Conference Room Cost: $3 - Register by June 6 There are famous people whose stories beckon to us -- periods in history that we feel inexplicably at home in.  In this workshop, we’ll see how writing historical fiction is like building a time machine: it allows us to immerse ourselves in times and places that fascinate us. Plus, it gives us a way to have a conversation with and get a handle on someone who has always inspired us.   T.J. Banks is the author of several books, including Moonlight & Grace, A Time for Shadows, Abys Among Us & Other Stories for the Feline-Inclined, and Catsong, as well as other books, anthologies and poetry. She has worked for The Associated Press and The Writer’s Digest School and taught writing workshops in both Connecticut and Massachusetts.
