From 1890 to 1930, American policy in the Caribbean was defined by interventionism and the pursuit of regional hegemony. Often referred to as "Yankee Imperialism," the United States used military, diplomatic, and economic pressure to establish itself as the dominant power.

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) dates back to September 18, 1947, when 33rd President Harry S. Truman signed the National Security Act of 1947 into law. A major impetus for the creation of the CIA was the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Semiquincentennial, marking 250 years since the
signing of the Declaration of Independence.
