Hidden Women Stage Company Presents: The Life of Sarah Margu Wednesday, June 4, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Simsbury Public Library Friends Program Room Free - Register by June 2 In celebration of Juneteenth, join us for a performance from Hidden Women Stage Company! Tammy Denease is a local actor, director and historian who brings to life the stories of “hidden” women throughout history. She will present a one-woman performance of the story of Sarah Margu. At only 9 years old, Margu was taken from her home in Sierra Leone by slave traders and brought to America aboard the Amistad. Learn how Margu and others forced aboard the Amistad won their freedom and how she went on to become the first African person to graduate from college.  Cosponsored by Simsbury Public Library & Simsbury Senior Center

LGBT+ History: From the 1940s to the 2020s Wednesday, June 25, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Simsbury Public Library Friends Program Room Free - Register by June 23 Celebrate Pride Month with the Simsbury Public Library and Senior Center! Join us for a presentation from Dr. Ashley Green as she discusses LGBT+ history from the 1940s to the 2020s. Topics will include World War II, the Stonewall Uprising in 1969, Marriage Equality and beyond. Green is a professor from CCSU with a degree in Sociology from the University of South Florida and has published work about LGBT+ culture and community.   Cosponsored by Simsbury Public Library & Simsbury Senior Center
